Each month the walls at Rapture Café & Books display a different artist’s work for our neighbors’ and customers’ enjoyment. In our current exhibition we are proud to present paintings by Garry Hayes.
GARRY HAYES     Open Book: Exploding Origami Pop Art     on view through March 28



Garry Hayes's installation at Rapture is inspired by the usual appeal of the beautifully useless glossy art book or coffee table book. As these books are full of rich textures and stunning displays of color, Mr. Hayes uses them for raw material in his sculpture.

As a painter and sculptor, Mr. Hayes searches for ways to bust up traditional methods of making art. Each book is cut and folded within its original binding, therefore it transforms into a three-dimensional wall sculpture.
